Which Players Are Heading Into BBL10 With The Best/Worst IPL Form?

For the first time ever, the IPL final and the start of the BBL are only a month apart. Such a quick turnaround has put extra emphasis on players’ form from the United Arab Emirates.

In a normal year, there are seven months in between the IPL and the BBL, which allows players to rediscover or lose their form in other T20 tournaments around the world.

Now, the short break means some players are flying into the BBL, while others will be desperate to immediately be amongst the runs and wickets.

Which Bowlers Should We Expect To Continue Their IPL Success?

Rashid Khan

the Afghanistan leg spinner has lit up the BBL for the Adelaide Strikers and he does not appear to be slowing down. He had an incredible IPL, taking 20 wickets in 16 matches at an economy rate of 5.37, the best of the tournament. His BBL record is amazing too having taken 56 wickets for the Strikers in the last 3 seasons. He's the number one T20 bowler in the world, while it's safe to assume he will be bamboozling batters this BBL.

Imran Tahir

The Renegades will be excited by their experienced South African signing. He only played 3 matches for the 1 wicket in this year’s IPL, but his economy rate (6.9) was excellent. His wrong-un should trouble batters, but at least the Renegades know that if the wickets are not coming, he'll keep things tight.

James Pattinson

The Australian quick may not play a lot for the Renegades, if Australian duty calls. But, if he is available, he's entering the BBL on the back of promising IPL form. His economy rate is not exceptional at 9.01 but he is a strike bowler, his 11 wickets from 10 matches at a strike rate of 19.36 is a decent return.

Which Bowlers Will Be Out To Improve On Their IPL Form?

Marcus Stoinis

The Stars all-rounder didn't have a poor IPL with the ball. He took 13 wickets at a strike rate of 13.69. But, his economy rate of 9.53 prevented him from having a truly great tournament with the ball. He often bowls the death overs and this can push economy rates higher, but Stoinis will look to find the right balance between wicket taking and restricting runs in this BBL.

Adam Zampa

A very small sample size from his stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore, comprising just the 3 matches. But, Zampa is a far better bowler than an average of 46 and an economy rate of 8.36. He has proven this with 9wickets in the first 5 white ball matches of the summer against India, and his average of 21.23 and economy rate of 6.59 in T20Is, suggests he will be among the best bowlers this BBL.

Andrew Tye

The bowler known for his array of slower balls had a single forgettable outing for the Rajasthan Royals this IPL. He took 1/50 from 4 overs and he will be determined to prove that he’s a better bowler than that as the Scorchers look to return to the finals this season.

Which Batters Should We Expect To Fire In BBL10?

Nicholas Pooran

The Melbourne Stars will be thrilled that they have secured the signature of the West Indian blaster. 353 runs at 35.3 and a strike rate of 169.71 are brilliant IPL numbers and the Stars will expect him to continue this form. A top order including Pooran, Stoinis and Maxwell is trully mouth-watering for Melbourne Stars fans.

Marcus Stoinis

352 runs at 25.14 and a strike rate of 148.52 in a different role was a great return for the all rounder. Stoinis batted predominantly in the middle order for the Delhi Capitals, before a return to opening the batting in the finals. He smashed a season-record 705runs in BBL09 at the top of the order, and it's expected he will fill the same position for the Stars.

Which Batters Need To Improve On Their IPL Performances?

Glenn Maxwell

After a disappointing IPL, the Melbourne Stars captain reminded everyone of his class by smashing the Indian bowling attack to all parts of the SCG and Manuka Oval. During the IPL, he often went out pursuing quick runs at the end of the innings, but class is permanent, and Maxwell is expected to deliver some breath-taking performances throughout BBL10.

Aaron Finch

Similarly, the Australian ODI and T20 captain followed up his underwhelming IPL campaign with statement performances of 114, 60, 75 and 35 against India. Finch sustained an injury in the first T20I in Canberra, but it should not keep him down for too long. He is the all-time leading run scorer in the BBL and will again lead the Renegades from the front.

Joshua Philippe

The young Western Australian who has burst onto the T20 scene with the Sydney Sixers managed five matches in his maiden IPL season for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Batting in the middle order was foreign to Philippe, before he replaced Finch at the top later in the season. Philippe will be determined to improve his strike rate of 101.29 from the IPL, which was much lower than his T20 career strike rate of 133.95.
