Club 20 NRL Tipping Round 19: Normal Factors Become Difficult

Despite most major cities being in strict lockdown and all eastern states not letting anyone from other states into their state, the NRL is still going strong, busting through the feeble attempted tackles of common sense and good optics to survive into Round 19.

We have all known for a long time that cockroaches and Keith Richards would survive whatever global cataclysmic event wiped out the rest of us, but after the last few weeks I think its safe to add aussie winter sport to that list because nothing it seems can stop the sporting show from rolling on.

As teams change states and states change venues in some horrible parody of that scene in Baseketball that highlights sports inexorable drift away from the love of the game and the metaphoric nobility of man, we tipsters are faced with what can best be described as a complete sh*tstorm of a round.

Normal tipping factors become more difficult to bake into the tipping cake; home ground advantage, crowd, player motivation, hell even the starting 17’s are now more volatile than they were in the before times, which is really saying something.

Fortunately for us here at Club 20, we have been subcontracting our tipping brainpower for over three months now, using Stats Insider’s NRL model to work out who we will tip without much care as to the why or how it arrived at said tip.

It is results we’re after, and after 18 rounds the model is on 105/134 (78%) thanks to a solid 6/8 last week, which puts those of us who have been on the #trustthemodel bus up the top of our tipping comp ladders in 2021.

Betting is even harder these days, even the model stumbled abit with all the state-hopping teams are doing in Round 18, missing both the green smiley bets which means dipping under 60% for the first time this season (24/41 – 58.5%).

Lets get into the Round 19 action and see what tips and bets the model has for us this week!

Hedge

Cruelly denied sporting glory due to recurring shin splint complaints and an aversion to warm-up laps, Hedge now spends his days golfing, fishing the leaves out of the Club 20 pools and identifying value plays in PGA, AFL, AFLW and T20. All you really need to know about him is he's more than comfortable taking 3I off the tee on a Par 5, and more than capable of pulling driver off the deck second shot.
