Super Rugby Finals 2019: Your team’s chances of stopping the Crusaders

The business end of the 2019 Super Rugby season starts this weekend with the quarter-finals set to get underway, with the Crusaders taking on the Highlanders.

While the less said about the Waratahs the better, Jaguares have emerged as the surprise package of the 2019 season, recording their best ever finish.

There are eight teams in with a chance of claiming top honours, with the Stats Insider Super Rugby Futures giving the Crusaders a 55% chance of claiming their third consecutive Super Rugby title.

With only 11 wins from 16 starts, the Crusaders were below their best in 2019 but managed to finish five points clear on top of the New Zealand Conference.

The Hurricanes (17.2%) remain a clear favourite in second place behind the Crusaders for 2019 honours. The Wellington-based side have performed admirably leading into this years’ finals series, finishing the regular season with more wins than the Crusaders, finishing as a bridesmaid to the Crusaders on bonus points.

The Stats Insider Futures model predicts that Jaguares (9.1%) are a real chance of upsetting the New Zealand monopoly on the Super Rugby trophy.

The South Americans recorded their best finish in franchise history, finishing on top of the African Conference by 10-points, recording a franchise record 11 wins in 2019. A home semi-final beckons for the South Americans if they can find a way past the Chiefs at the Estadio Jose Amalftiani.

The Brumbies (6.4%) are the only representative from the Australian Conference, leaving the Chiefs (4.8%), Highlanders (3.4%), Bulls (2.2%) and Sharks (1.9%) at long odds to steal the title from the Crusaders in 2019.

The Crusaders remain the clear favourites for the 2019 title, but the opening weekend of the Super Rugby Finals series is sure to create some intrigue with Jaguares the team likely to cause some real problems heading into the second week of the Super Rugby Finals.
