Port have been too good for Essendon in recent seasons, winning the last 7 meetings which takes us back to 2018. 4 of those 7 meetings have been at the Adelaide Oval with the winning margins of 5, 16, 54 and 50 points.

The last time they met was R16 last season at the MCG and that was a close one with Port kicking 5 goals to 3 in the last quarter to win by 4 points.

Last week:

Port were disappointing last week. They got out to a 3-goal lead midway through the 1st quarter before Melbourne fought back hard, regaining the lead before going into the main break level. Port again got out to a lead but the Demons outworked them to peg them back again, in front of a huge Adelaide crowd. Port then drew level but the Demons manage to kick away again to win by a goal. Port won every key category - Inside 50s 66-45, Clearances 52-37, Tackles 67-57.

Essendon trailed St Kilda until the last 9 minutes of the game. The Saints looked like they had enough to hold on, like Ross Lyon would have them do but the Bombers stepped up their pressure to kick the last 2 goals of the game and win by 4 points. The key stats favoured Essendon - Tackles 66-61, Clearances 37-32, Inside 50s 53-51 and overall disposals 417-392.

What we can expect:

Port will find a way to convert better. They must. Last week's finishing just left too much opportunity for Melbourne to hurt them on the scoreboard when their chances presented.

Essendon won't shirk the Port pressure or the hostile crowd. They can keep it close enough to cover the +24.5 point line with BetRight just here.
