We get started on Sunday at the SCG with a fresh Sydney team against the 3-2 Suns. Interesting game coming up.

Head to Head:

Sydney won both meetings last year, by 49 points in R1 (GC), and 24 points in R22 in Sydney. They hold an overall 12-4 record over the Suns but the last 9 meetings show 5-4 to Sydney. The Suns have often played well in Sydney, winning by 14 points in 2022, 32 points in 2020 and 24 points in 2018. 

Last week:

The Swans had the Bye last week but back in Round 4 they struggled to shake a gritty Eagles team with the Eagles going into HT leading by 5 points. The Swans brought more to the 2nd half to go and win by 26 points. Given the last meeting was a 171-point win to the Swans, to get within 26 points here was quite remarkable. Sydney won the Clearances, 44-32 but the rest of the stats were fairly even.

The Suns had a "regulation" 53-point win over the Hawks, leading by 19 at QT, 22 at HT and 40 at 3QT. The Hawks managed just 270 disposals, against their season average of 340. The Suns won the Inside 50s 65-45, Clearances 38-28, Uncontested Possession 231-128 and Tackles 61-44. The game had a "men against boys" feel about it, and we don't say that often in the Suns favour. 

What we can expect this week:

Sydney should be fresh after a week off, and the Suns should be fresh also after the "training run" against Hawthorn.
