Welcome to Stats Insider's Big Bash Market Preview - your daily look at what the model (and my gut) are seeing in the main markets (and a few exotics) each and every day of BBL08!
This Christmas the model has given us the gift of a heap of smaller edges to think about in today's big double header!
Let’s see where we can find some value today.

Head to Head
Some lesser edges (3%) for the Stars and the Sixers in today’s big Christmas Eve double header means we are looking outside the main H2H market for some value from the model.
Fall of 1st Wicket
Value here, get the pens out!
The model sure does love an early wicket to fall for the Stars, identifying a 5% edge for Under 19.5 runs in the Fall of First Wicket market for the visitors in the early game. With Dunk’s poor form I can’t disagree.
Likewise, in the late game the model has a 4% edge identified for the Thunder Under 20.5 runs.
Most Sixes
No smiles in either game in this market but 4% edges from the model for the Hurricanes and the Sixers gives punters a guide where the model is leaning for those who love a dip at the most 6’s market.
Team Leading After 6 Overs
No value in this market in either game according to the model.
High Bat
Almost picked the eyes out of last night’s game with Jono Wells and Cam White both looking great until the big power hitters Short and Christian went bang.
I like Ben McDermott tonight at $4.50. Oozes class, has composure and if Short fails he will get all the time in the world to build a big score.
In Tassie Glen Maxwell and his flicks off the pads down to that short boundary make that short $3.50 price better value than it first looks.
For the Sixers I the late game I like Denly at $3.75. SOK at $67’s is always a good play if the whole top order collapses, can bat. Jos Buttler at $3.75 and Sangha at $8’s are the Thunder plays for mine.
Player of the Match
You know I don’t mind some value down the markets and Clive Rose at $26’s is popping for me. Only needs Dunk to do something silly early to have a good look at a 3 wicket haul which is all someone with that haircut needs to take down Player of the Match. Ben McDermott at $11’s also appeals.
Fawad Ahmed at $15’s is the play of the game in this market. I’d also give Pope a look at $26’s. Like the value about the spinners here.
