Data Road Trip looks back on the weekend that was, looking at the key data points and numbers that formed what we saw in all of the AFL and NRL action. Head to Head bets, Lines, Totals, win probabilities, we'll break them down here. This week we take a look at the first draw of the AFL season, one of the season's biggest upsets, and a couple of teams in both the AFL & NRL who didn't quite get there this week. Let's get into it!
43 Percent Win Probability
In the NRL's Game of the Round the Dragons headed across the ditch to take on the Warriors. Without Shaun Johnson, the Warriors inflicted the Dragons first loss of the season. After falling behind early the Dragons were never really in it, and only got as close as a 43 percent chance in the second half as the Warriors proved they are indeed the real deal.
91 Percent Win Probability
In the AFL's first draw of the season, St. Kilda and Greater Western Sydney played out a thriller at Etihad Stadium. GWS' lead in the fourth quarter had increased their chances to 91 percent halfway through the term, but the Saints almost pulled off a late comeback and if not for a late and controversial Phil Davis spoil, they'd have won the game.
49 Percent Win Probability
In what was a tough first few quarters of the game on Saturday night, the Port Adelaide Power were a 49 percent chance of victory coming into the fourth quarter of their clash with Geelong. However that's as close as they got, as the Cats ran away with the game with a surge of goals.
98 Percent Win Probability
In the shock of the round, North Melbourne demolished Hawthorn in one of the most impressive first halves of football in recent times. They were magnificent, shellshocking their opposition with 11 goals & 9 behind to Hawthorn's 3 goals. The Hawks attempted a second half stand, but it was to no avail and they were handed a heavy loss.
40 Percent Win Probability
In the worst named rivalry in Australian sports, Brisbane and Gold Coast went head to head in the Q-Clash. Unfortunately for the Lions, they allowed the Suns too much of a head start and could never catch up. Their chances never got better than 40 percent, and Gold Coast won bragging rights for now.
