EPL 2022/23 - Tottenham Season Outlook

There is something about Tottenham Hotspur. Regardless of how good, or how poor they are, they are always one of the most interesting teams to analyse and there is never a dull moment.

Their rise from mediocrity under Mauricio Pochettino saw them become the best team in the Premier League for two calendar years and yet they still didn’t win a title.

They reached the Champions League final in the most euphoric circumstances, and yet they lost in perhaps the most underwhelming way possible.

They have gone on a rollercoaster since the sacking of ‘Poch’, as their times under Jose Mourinho, Ryan Mason and Nuno Espirito-Santos have all experienced similar levels of highs and lows.

However, under current manager Antonio Conte, this could be the time where Spurs break the shackles and make a genuine tilt for the title.

Tottenham's Title Window

The biggest criticism of Spurs throughout their modern history is the lack of spending in the transfer market. Across those two years where they were the best team in the EPL without winning the league, they didn’t spend a penny on improving the squad.

This ultimately restricted them from achieving ultimate glory. However, in today's era, it’s a different story.

Owner Daniel Levy has backed Conte to the fullest extent, with the signings of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur in January proving to be crucial in securing Spurs' top four finish in 2021/22.

The spending hasn't stopped since then either, with Spurs performing shrewd business in this current transfer window, something we haven't seen in a long time.

Richarlison and Yves Bissouma were both arguably the best player of their respective clubs last season. They both offer valuable Premier League experience and immediately add to the overall quality of the starting 11 at Tottenham.

Clément Lenglet on loan from Barcelona will add some much-needed depth to the centre-half position, as well as being natural in the left-sided centre-back role, a position that's always been crucial in the Antonio Conte system.

And Ivan Perisic, someone very familiar with Antonio Conte, is up there with one of the most reliable and threatening wingbacks in world football. The Croatian offers intelligence and uncanny offensive ability which separate him from the class below.

Can Spurs Win The 2022/23 EPL Title?

It would take an all-time effort to overtake both Manchester City and Liverpool, however we have seen the Conte factor in full effect in the Premier League in the past, with his ability to turn average players into world beaters.

The signings he has been given perfectly suit the way that Conte wants to play, and with Spurs as hungry for success as ever, 2022/23 coud be the year they defy all odds.
