The Bulldogs are improving rapidly and with Preston returning, things are only getting better at Belmore. In contrast, Wests are heading in the wrong direction and the stress was showing on Coach Benji last weekend in the press conference.

However, I do think Wests have been highly competitive in all their games, with some tough calls going against them. I am a big believer in the fact that there are often key inflection points in games where a team’s momentum can be stunted in the past two weeks there have been two of these that have really ruined the Tigers:

1) Against the Panthers, I thought that when Olam was ankle-tapped, that should have been a professional foul and Panthers reduced to 12 men. This was at a point when the game was very evenly balanced.

2) The "no try" to Api was probably technically correct, but it was so deflating for the Tigers and if given, I think that game ends up closer.

It is also worth noting that the Tigers have played the two best teams in the competition right now in the form of the Panthers and Broncos, so their recent form slide has been driven by quality opposition. In contrast, the Doggies have not played either the Broncos or the Panthers so far this year, so I think the strength of schedule for each team has to be taken into account here and that makes this one more evenly balanced.

I definitely think the Bulldogs deserve favouritism but I am tempted to take Wests with the plus that is on offer as I think Wests will make this close. Waiting for a little more value to present.
