The Cowboys were one of the pleasant surprise packets of Round 1, however similar to the Raiders v Knights game, it is hard to know if the Cowboys were great or the Dolphins were horrible.

The Cowboys are certainty fitter and more mobile than they have been, and their ball movement was crisp and flat. This has all the hallmarks of 2022, but I don’t want to get carried away until I see how they back it up.

Similarly with the Knights, their performance was so bad that it looked like 2023 was just a fluke and we were back to the bad old days. The Knights halves were terrible and their forward were off the pace all game.

The Cowboys deserve to be favourties for this one, as 2023 form is already a distant memory and you have to take 2024 data seriously. Coach O’Brien is already under pressure to make some correct positional calls for the Knights, with Cogger and Pryce the halves pairing I would be going for in coming weeks if Hastings and Gamble don’t improve significantly this week.
