NRL Pro Punter Previews - Eels v Bulldogs, Round 1 2024

The Eels looked very sharp in their trial against the Titans and although they fell away when their stars came off, I saw enough to get worried about the Eels being dismissed as a Premiership threat. While their squad is not as deep as it has been in the past, their 1, 6 and 7 is as good as any team in the competition and I think Brendan Hands looks the good to make the 9 jersey his own in 2024.

RCG and Paulo were very solid in the middle and while they will lose some power when they come off, their back row of Matterson, Hopgood and Cartwright is massively underrated.

As for the Dogs, I was not too impressed by their trial form. Mahoney looks out of sorts, Burton has only glimpses of playing well and I have no idea why Coach Ciraldo seems to keen not to play Sexton at 7. Taafe is a great player, but he still has some errors in his game.

Overall, while there is uncertainty about what the Doggies will deliver in 2024, I have seen enough of the Eels in recent years to think they deserve to be bigger favourites in this one.
