Souths troubles are mainly stemming from the drop in form of Cody Walker. I don’t know why Latrell and others are copping the blame.

I am a big fan of Walker and he has been a creative genius for the past 5-6 seasons in the NRL, but in 2024 he is clearly not 100%. With 2 tackle breaks, 0 line breaks and an average of 49 running metres per game, it is clear his running game is not there. This is them affecting his passing game, as defences are shutting down his running options and he only has 1 try assists in 3 games. At 34, I did say this was a chance of being an issue in 2024 and I am not sure Walker will be able to turn it around any time soon. He needs to play 7, Latrell to 7 and Jye Graham at 1... yes that is radical, but sometimes that is what is needed.

Cameron Murray is also looking exhausted due to all the defence he is doing due to Souths error rate, and their errors are stemming from their lack of go-forward, with Tom Burgess and Tatola struggling to win the battle of the middle in all 3 of their games.

As for the Doggies, they had a breakthrough performance last weekend against the Titans. While the Titans were woeful and it is important not to get too excited about that performance, the signs were there a week earlier against the Sharks.

Kikau stepped up and played his best game since joining the Sharks, while Curran could prove to be signing of the season over the course of this season. Burton looked more relaxed and Mahoney was also back to his best.

I think this game will be slightly closer than the bookies think and I like the 6.5 head start on offer for the improving Doggies.

Predicted score: 20 Souths - Bulldogs 18
