Recapping AFLW Model Results 2018

The 2019 AFLW season is almost upon us and we here at Stats Insider could not be more excited.
The Dream Debut
No need to be modest or coy here, we are all pretty pumped and proud of our AFLW 2018 results.
AFLW has a special place in our hearts because it was the first sport on the Stats Insider website and whilst confidence was high that it would do well, this time last year there were naturally some butterflies in the basket at SI HQ.
As the 2018 AFLW season went on though, those butterflies turned into a combination of high-fives, fist-pumps and office-wide happy dances.
It was only a seven-week season but in those seven weeks the Stats Insider model (and those following it) absolutely cleaned up;
- H2H – 11of 18 for $314 profit (17.44% Profit Over Turnover)
- TOTALS – 11 of 18 for $376 profit (21.80% POT)
- LINE – 11of 16 for $657.75 profit (50.60% POT)
*($25 Orange Smiley, $100 Green Smiley)
For those who can’t be bothered using the calculator on your phone (and let’s face it, that’s all of us), the total profit for the seven-week AFLW 2018 season from the Stats Insider model was $1,347.45.
That’s over $190/week for seven weeks! Remember, these are using average market prices, so those shopping around for best odds would have been even further ahead!
Can it happen again?
There are plenty of reasons why the Stats Insider model can be even better in season 2019 of the AFLW.
Bookmakers have been slow to work out what accurate markets look like for AFLW.
With two new teams entering the competition this season, plus a host of new rule changes, markets go two steps forward three steps backwards in working the game out. Everyone is expecting higher scoring in 2019, but how much higher?
What’s an average score? How will the new rules impact ball movement and score? What impact will the massive offseason of player movement have? What effect will the two new teams entering the competition have on game totals or line markets? What impact does rain have?
These are all things that Stats Insider’s bigger and better player-driven model factors in, as we simulate each and every game 10,000 times, and this season our model is even stronger because we have the data from the 2018 season added in.
Combine these factors with the model's constant updates with the latest information available and there are plenty of reasons to look forward to a great 2019 AFLW season.
