The Stats Insider Model nearly got it bang on in the North Queensland Cowboys-Newcastle Knights clash, as our predicted score of 20-17 narrowly missed, finishing 20-18 thanks to a late Gavin Cooper try to steal a Cowboys win against the odds.
Johnathan Thurston turned back the clock with some brilliant lead up play helped to set up Cooper to win the game for the Cowboys.
It wasn't looking good for most of the night for North Queensland, as Newcastle raced to a 12-0 lead inside the first 10 minutes and led all night until the 78th minute Cowboys winner.
The Knights would lead 18-6 at the half, as the Cowboys struggled to make an impact on the scoreboard.
Newcastle's In-Play Win Probability had jumped to 74% early in the second half, but Coen Hess crashed over after a pass from Thurston set him up and the Cowboys were back in the game with 30 minutes to go.
Less than five minutes later they'd scored again as Thurston bagged his second try of the season, and after he converted the try the Cowboys had trimmed the lead to 18-16 with more than 25 minutes left to play.
The Knights gave everything they had trying to hold onto the lead, but it was to no avail as Cooper found his way through in the 78th minute to steal the Cowboys 5th win of the season.
