It’s a bit different on this week’s Punt Return Podcast with one-third of the usual trio missing in action. Stat’s Insider very own Dr Darryl Data is missing in action this week but managed to leave all of his week 8 Data for Woot and Wye to dissect.
Before getting into their bets the boys discuss the randomness of the NFL and how a single play can be the difference between a winning week and a losing week. They also talk about the Amari Cooper and Damon “Snacks” Harrison trades.
Plenty of talk in this podcast centres around the Packers travelling to Los Angeles to take on the Rams. The near ten point spread is the largest of Aaron Rodgers career as an underdog. Josh Wootton likes the Packers +9.5 in this spot predicting a slow start from both sides before the Rams get out to a double-digit lead before vintage Aaron Rodgers stages an epic comeback. Wootton doesn’t think they get the Win but enough to cover and push the total Over the 56.5 mark.
Josh Wye disagrees with the Rams/Packers total and likes the Under 56.5. He notes that the final score has only surpassed 57 points in 6 of the Rams’ last 23 games. With the Packers having a strong start to the season in Pass Defense, Wye likes the Rams to run the ball a lot with Todd Gurley and use plenty of clock in the process.
Darryl’s best play is the Dolphins +7.5 and reminds the audience of the success the model in picking the Dolphins in the first two weeks of the season.
