For the first time in well over the month the Punt Return Podcast had all hands on deck as Woot, Wye and Darryl Data get stuck into Week 14 of the NFL season.
The boys recap a tumultuous Week 13 that saw 10 of the 16 underdogs cover the spread and a whopping seven underdogs win games outright. Before getting into all the Week 14 action the guys discuss how to approach the later weeks of an NFL season and in particular being cautious with teams that have “nothing to play for”. Darryl in particular mentioned that team motivation or lack thereof is something that the model cannot predict.
Considering all of the above, it makes sense that the guys don’t have too many plays in Week 14. All three were divided on a number of games in particular the Atlanta @ Green Bay game. Woot expects the Packers to bounce back in a big way with Aaron Rodgers thriving without Mike McCarthy while Wye thinks the Packers struggles go beyond McCarthy and that nearly a touchdown is too many points to give to an Atlanta team that has owned the Packers of late. Woot and Darryl were in agreeance about the Buccaneers +8 against the Saints. Until the Saints slip up against the Cowboys, the Round 1 loss at home to the Ryan Fitzpatrick led Bucs was the only loss on New Orleans’ 2018 resume. Darryl and the model have had great success with the Bucs this season and it could continue with a very nice +8% edge in their favour.
Without an obvious lock of the week, the guys turn their attention to the Armed Forces Bowl and agree that Under 41.5 is the play to make when Army meets Navy at Lincoln Financial Field.
DID YOU KNOW?
• Julio Jones averages 144 yards a game across his last 4 against the Packers
• Miami is 4-1 straight up and against the spread in their last five matches against New England at home.
