Thursday Night Lights: Tiger is back and so is Club 20!

A week can be a long time in the life of a sports-loving punter and those of us here at Club 20 woke up Monday morning feeling like Steve Carrell’s character in that Age of Aquarius scene in the 40 Year Old Virgin!

Really is amazing what a big win can do.

Heads are higher, smiles are wider, even the sparkle has returned to the Club 20 pools this week after our first big weekend of the post sportocalyptic world, hitting Colllllllin Morikawa to win the Workday Charity Open (31-1).

We also snagged a nice double figure EW for Gary ‘the kids are at home and I’m ‘stuck’ in the PGA bubble for two weeks’ Woodland.

Our run of horrible luck (general shitness) in the AFL continued though as we specced Lincoln McCarthy to snag a few goals against the old firm – from memory he was statless at 3QT!

But mostly those thoughts of negativity have been pushed aside as we eye a great night of sport featuring the Cats and Pies in a rainy Optus game, a GF rematch in the NRL between the Chooks and the Raiders, and the first round of the 2020 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield.

Let's rip into it, shall we?

PGA - Memorial Invitational

In a PGA-first we got a look at this course last week. Add some length to the tee boxes, an inch to the rough, and add plenty of pace to already-slick greens. Then add a distinct lack of value in the top half of the field and forecast rain and wind do disrupt both waves at stages - it all equates to a big watch on the outright markets.

We like Woodland again but don’t like his number (or his late tee time), we want a better number for Ancer, and are happy to wait for a nice social 70/71 from Rory or Tiger in R1 then pounce on a better price.

Much as he owes us, can’t have Bezeidenhout here with his wayward OTT game, but will be watching his first round with interest.

Best case scenario is some spud shoots lights out early and a lot of the guys we like are sitting enough back to get a big odds bump – fortunes can change rapidly on this course and it wouldn’t surprise me to see the likes of Woodland, Rory or Tiger struggle through the wind Round 1 then come out and go bang on Friday morning.

3-Balls

Justin Thomas to beat DJ and Xander, Collin Morikawa to edge Bryson and Cantlay and Abraham Ancer to take care of Wolff and Cink.

Going to take all three singles and all combos as well;

  • Morikawa @ 3.00

  • Thomas @ 2.40

  • Ancer @ 1.95

  • Morikawa, JT @ 7.20

  • Morikawa, Ancer @ 5.85

  • JT, Ancer @ 4.68

  • JT, Morikawa, Ancer @ 14.00

Outright bets to come Friday, hopefully our 3-Balls go well to give us a nice litte pot to attack with.

AFL – Cats v Magpies

Going to be rainy over in the west tonight and with totals plummetting to all-time lows, goals seem likely to be few and far between.

So, naturally, we are backing someone to kick goals.

With De Goey back the price around Mihocek has gone up not down despite coming off 4-goals against the Hawks. He has kicked multiple goals in 4 of his last 6 and we get a good $3.50 price for a pair tonight. Also taking 3+ ($11) and 4+ ($41’s) for good measure. (We’re sorry in advance Brody).

AFL – Bombers v Bulldogs

Fine and sunny on the Goldy tomorrow and despite the dew, we like Laverde for a few goals providing Stringer remains out.

Laverde should have kicked 4-5 last week but remains a great price here against the Dogs, played a lot out of the square.

We will be on 2/3/4 goals once teams are named.

NRL – Roosters v Raiders

The rematch of the 2019 Granf Final has been soured by the absence of Josh Hodgson at hooker for the Raiders. His absence cannot be understated. Huge hole in the middle, a hole the chooks will go straight through.

Might take 50-60mins but the flood gates will open and when they do, the Roosters backline will cash in.

Williams and Young missed 10 between them last week, the Roosters will fancy breaking Canberra’s right edge defence and any line break on that leathal left for Sydney means Keary and Teddy are in the game.

  • Tedesco Try @ 2.30

  • Tedesco 2+ @ 7.50

  • Keary Try @ 3.30

  • Keary 2+ Try @ 16.00

Hedge

Cruelly denied sporting glory due to recurring shin splint complaints and an aversion to warm-up laps, Hedge now spends his days golfing, fishing the leaves out of the Club 20 pools and identifying value plays in PGA, AFL, AFLW and T20. All you really need to know about him is he's more than comfortable taking 3I off the tee on a Par 5, and more than capable of pulling driver off the deck second shot.
